BCM Intermediate League report
1 May 2025
On Wednesday, we made the trip to Swinton for the first Intermediate League gala of the season.
At the halfway stage we were three points ahead, but after the next three races we were three points behind! It was to and fro to the end, with our older age groups proving the difference between the teams as we finished with a three-point advantage.
A big shout out to numerous nine-year olds swimming in the 11/under age group, even winning some of their races against older swimmers! A big thank you to all our timekeepers and team managers who looked after the swimmers on the day.
Our next round of the Intermediate League is on 4th June, with team invites to be sent out soon.
A marathon effort
28 April 2025
We’d like to say a big thank you to Sarah and all the Manchester Marathon volunteers for their hard work on Sunday.
We had 24 volunteers at bag collection at the finish, who put in a long shift on our behalf (11-6.30pm).
NW Regionals report
28 April 2025
Three of our swimmers – Jack, Nazar and Ivan – travelled over to Liverpool to swim in the second weekend of North West Regionals 2025.
On Saturday, Nazar improved his ranking from 15th to 12th in the 200 back with a solid PB. Ivan took on the 50m back and made the final, improving from 11th to sixth in the final. Jack swam a great PB in the heats of the 100 fly to qualify for the final in seventh, and improved again in the final with great closing speed to finish in fourth, just half a second off the medal positions. These were either side of a solid 50 breaststroke.
On the Sunday, Jack had just one race – swimming the 50 fly in a small PB. Ivan took on the double of 50 fly and 100 back. He wasn’t sub-30s for the first time in the fly to qualify for the final in sixth. The 100 backstroke was a close thing, with Ivan just 0.1s away from another final after another PB. He then swam another PB in the fly final to be just 0.04s away from a medal.
It was a great weekend of competition for our three boys.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Tom H, Pearl O and Isabella H will race at Manchester in the 15/overs competition. We wish you fast swimming and the best of luck!
Rossall recap
11 April 2025
More than 50 swimmers and staff are settling back into ‘normal’ life after another brilliant week at Rossall School. Thanks to all of the swimmers for putting their all into the week, and all of the staff for planning such a great week and ensuring the swimmers were well looked after. Special thanks to Phil, who made his last Rossall appearance as a coach but promised to be back next year as part of the officials’ team.
On the way home, we asked the swimmers to send us their Rossall reviews.
- It was very fun and competitive, the games room was good and the swimming was amazing.
- Rossall was really good because it was fun but also challenging to help us improve. I enjoyed playing badminton and swimming in the sea.
- My favourite part was the yellow and blue gala and the 25m breaststroke because I beat my head coach Tom. Also, I got to spend time with my friends.
- I quite enjoyed swim camp. Even though there was quite a lot of swimming, we also did other stuff that was fun!
- I really enjoyed camp – it was really fun. I got to socialise with my friends and coaches, and got to know them better. I enjoyed sharing a room with a friend. And camp in general was amazing.
- My favourite part of camp was the sets we did, particularly the 30x100s. I feel as though Rossall pushes me to train harder every year, as well as having great food, spending time with my friends and playing plenty of games.
- Rossall was really fun and it was nice to spend time with friends. I improved my stamina for longer distances.
- Rossall swim camp was a really fun experience. I enjoyed every second of it and I loved spending time with my friends.
- I really enjoyed the experience. I loved how close and kind everyone was with each other, the sets were sometimes challenging but we all persevered and completed them as a team. The gala was an amazing experience – it gave people the chance to attempt skins races that they may come across in their competing future.
